The Made in Derbyshire Project

Derbyshire Branches of the Embroiderers’ Guild have been asked to participate in a project to make four textile panels for display in the windows of Chesterfield Library. This project would be part of the Made in Derbyshire 2015 campaign lead by Derbyshire County Council, other local councils, arts and cultural groups, museums and tourism organisations to promote the local economy through culture, heritage and sports events and associated products and festivals.

Members of Ashbourne, Chesterfield, Derbyshire and Trent & Erewash Valley branches have risen to the challenge, and working with the poet Matt Black and photographer Paula Moss to produce the panels which will be on display in the library from October of this year.

Ashbourne’s panel will show aspects of the White Peak - Dovedale, Chatsworth, Haddon, Ashbourne’s Shrovetide Football Match and Highland Games, the Green Man and Quiet Woman inns, Blue John, and recall the Dambuster experiments over Derwent Reservoir. A Bakewell Pudding recipe will link them all together over rolling Derbyshire hills.
